Easy-Bake Oven

Mix it, bake it and eat it! The Easy-Bake Oven lets kids make their own little cakes, cookies and other treats.

A real working oven made for kids! Mix up the ingredients, put your cake or cookies in the little pan, slide it into the oven and wait. A few minutes later, you've baked it yourself. And eating what you made is definitely part of the fun.

The Easy-Bake Oven was introduced by Kenner in 1963 and was an immediate hit. The original turquoise-and-yellow oven didn't use a regular heating element - it baked using the heat from ordinary 100-watt light bulbs (remember, this was way before modern LED bulbs that generate virtually no heat!). About half a million Easy-Bake Ovens were sold in the first year.

Part of the fun was that this wasn't just pretending to cook, you actually mixed the batter and baked something you could eat. The cakes weren't very big, and they weren't going to put your neighborhood bakery out of business, but you made them yourself.

Easy-Bake Ovens have changed quite a bit over the years. There have been different colors and styles, and plenty of different mixes sized just for the Easy-Bake - cakes, cookies, brownies, pizza and more. Modern Easy-Bake Ovens don't use the old light-bulb heating system, but the idea is still pretty much the same: make it, bake it and eat it.
